Biogas, Oars Efforts Draco 2 Gallery February 12, 2014 dragon Raiser Leave a comment Urbanic’s System – Draco I I From just above the house site, across creek, and to site excavation. Urbanic’s System – Draco I I The base of the digesters with footings and rock mass for heat storage; formed for pouring floor. Urbanic’s System Draco II -Laying up block for greenhouse, digesters and retaining walls. Believing the gas-tight claims for fiberglass-reinforced B-bond, block was set dry, i.e. without mortar. (Another mistake!) Urbanic’s System Draco II -Block work done up to level of digester ceiling. B-bond plastered over both sides of all. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Digester ceilings formed for concrete pour; digester sides tarred and insulated; thermosiphons in place. Ceiling consisted of 4” reinforced concrete, 2” styrofoam, and another 2+” reinforced concrete. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Above digesters, pond baffles completed. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Inlet covers, stirring plunger and channel extension completed. Note secondary loading port covers and plunger for agitation. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Digester wall outside the greenhouse – insulated and covered for cold weather operation. Note covered entry port and used gas valve for emptying. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Greenhouse completed and the first winter’s mud. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Condensation traps, hydrogen sulfide scrubbers and gas meters in the gas Urbanic’s System Draco II -A second condensation trap at the line’s low point in the creek bed. Urbanic’s System Draco II -Loading one digester through the main port with stable bedding and manure. Urbanic’s System Draco II -Upon loading the digester with water, it was discovered that the B-bond was a major failure! Water streamed out of a few retaining bolts holding the greenhouse. In spite of its inhibition of desired heat flows, I had a thin layer of urethane foam sprayed over the entire inside of the digesters. Urbanic’s System Draco II – Manometers, pressure gauges, for both systems. Gas pressure is seen in different levels of orange water on one gauge. Urbanic’s System Draco II -Greenhouse use the first year. Urbanic’s System Draco II -The system from above. Pond extensions completed. (Note earthen bottom of extensions – I should have spread a couple inches of bentonite clay) Photovoltaic thermosiphon fans installed. Urbanic’s System Draco II -The completed system and driveways to digesters and house. Urbanic’s System Draco II -The system from above the house. I continue to maintain that I saw to the birthing of a few of the most attractive of digesters. Urbanic’s System Draco II – The system with added work area during its second summer.
